Ancient Oak Tree in Shropshire, England

This ancient oak stands at the T junction of two lanes just a little way from the Shropshire home of Anthony Sargeant. The lanes around this part of Shropshire are punctuated with old Oak trees. From time to time in high winds branches will break off but otherwise they stand solid and naturally gaunt. Just about to burst into new growth as the leaf buds open in mid-April. (yesterday when this photograph was taken it was Easter Saturday – 15th April 2017)

Sheep on a Sunny Spring day in Shropshire

Ewes with the lambs were photographed by Anthony J Sargeant in the field next to his Shropshire home (2nd April 2017). The weather was glorious – a typical English Spring day, not hot, but breezy and sunny with glorious blue skies and the trees not yet in leaf although the buds are starting to swell. The sort of day that Robert Browning must have yearned when he wrote ‘Home thoughts from abroad’ – “Oh to be in England, now that April’s there”

Spring has arrived in England and the primroses are blooming all over the garden and in the hedgerows. Anthony Sargeant, Tony, took this photograph late in the afternoon of the 30th March 2017 in the garden of his Shropshire Home.

Winter sunset in Shropshire photographed by Anthony Sargeant

Sensational evening sky photographed from the garden of the Shropshire (UK) home of Tony Sargeant a few weeks ago. The old Oak tree silhouetted against the evening sky is part of an ancient hedgerow separating two fields where sheep graze.

Snow in Shropshire – February 2017

It has been a mild winter with very little snow this year and not so many serious frosts as normal. Anthony Sargeant took this photograph from the bedroom window of his Shropshire, UK, home

A fine Winter’s day in Shropshire

This photograph was taken by Anthony Sargeant from the bedroom window of his Shropshire home on 30th December 2016 at around midday. The view is towards the East looking across the River Corve which lies just below the house surrounded by water meadows. In the middle distance sheep are grazing in the meadow on the far side of the river. The English countryside has a beautiful transclucent quality in the winter when the deciduous trees have shed their leaves.
